Flowserve Dayton Steel Foundry is a world-class, high alloy foundry specializing in stainless steels, nickel base alloys and reactive alloys suchas titanium and zirconium. Located in Dayton, Ohio. Flowserve’s foundry is widely regarded as among the best in the world. Covering approximately 250 000 sq ft (23 225 m2) of modern plant and utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and processes, these facilities include the following processes: • No bake (air-set sand) • Investment • Shell • Reactive alloy (sand and investment) No-Bake Process No-Bake Process can satisfy the most demanding requirements for high quality, high performance castings... for either a prototype or an extended run. Utilizing wood patterns, no-bake is particularly appropriate for prototype work as alterations can be made cost effectively. Investment Process Investment, also called lost wax or precision, castings are characterized by their exceptionally fine detail, close tolerances and superior surface finishes. The result is dependable, consistent quality. Providing impressive economy, Flowserve investment castings will keep expensive finishing and machining operations to a minimum, and in some cases, eliminate the need all together. Shell Process Flowserve Foundry Operations' Shell Process routinely produces castings to ASTM Severity Level II with superior surface finish and excellent dimensional integrity. Mold and core sands have been specially formulated to reduce gas levels producing castings with high internal quality. Reactive Alloy Reactive-Alloy expertise is applied in the production of high quality titanium, zirconium and specialty reactive alloy castings. Vertically Integrated Flowserve offers single-source responsibility for the integrity of its castings from raw materials through final inspection. This results in superior products with consistent quality, on-time delivery and competitive pricing. It also means an uncommon level of customer service. Design and Technical Assistance Flowserve’s Foundry engineers and technical staff can assist with the selection of materials, casting design and requisite quality level. Castings are produced to customer needs and standards and can be provided to ASTM E446 Level II quality or higher. Controlled material documentation also is available. While primarily geared for moderate to large volume output, Flowserve can provide low volume, loose pattern work requiring skilled coremaking and molding. Quality Assurance Flowserve’s Quality Assurance program ensures castings will completely meet customer expectations and requirements for quality, delivery and price. • While many foundries purchase “mastermelt,” Flowserve possesses in-house capability to blend and analyze metals. This assures consistent and optimal chemistry, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. • All operations are carefully controlled and documented through a series of technical specifications to assure consistency. • Every heat is analyzed at least twice to guarantee compositional integrity. • All castings are inspected to MSS Standard Practice 55. • The use of dual thermocouples and regular monitoring of furnace temperature distribution ensure adequate temperature level during heat treatment.
